What is Body Odor?
By: Andrena Stevenson
Body odor is the unpleasant or stifling smell emanating from our body, especially from body parts like armpits, feet, hair, skin, genitals, and breasts. Body odor is same as Bromhidrosis. In reality, this smell does not emanate from the sweat.
Sweat is actually a combination of water and various salts like potassium and sodium. Our body gives out sweat to control body temperature and cool the body. Bacteria present in the air multiple in huge numbers in the presence of sweat and emanate the specific odor.
Normally body odor is unique to every person, unless of course if you are an identical twin. Our genetics, diet, health, gender, mood, occupation, and medication decide our body odor. This is true among 17th century Japanese encountering Europeans for the first time. They associated the strong European body smell to the butter Europeans ate.
